Editing and exporting a recording
A saved recording opens in the video editor. Its screen, camera, microphone and computer audio tracks remain separate when those sources were captured.
Timeline, trim and cuts
The timeline shows screen and camera thumbnail tracks when both were recorded. Click or drag on the time ruler to scrub, or use the Playhead slider below the tracks. Zoom enlarges the timeline for more precise work. The white line is the playhead; yellow handles mark the start and end of your export.
Drag either yellow handle to trim the beginning or end. To remove a mistake, move to its beginning and click Split, move to its end and click Split again, then click the section between the splits and choose Delete section. Red sections are skipped during playback and export. The timeline keeps showing original source time so your edits remain easy to locate. At least a short section must remain.
Undo and Redo reverse editing changes during this editor session. Restore deleted sections brings back all removed sections. Original media stays untouched.
Camera layouts
With a camera track, move the playhead and choose a view: Screen, Picture in picture, Camera, Split or Screen in corner. Picture in picture puts your camera over the screen; Screen in corner swaps them so your camera fills the background. Each change applies from the playhead until the next layout change. Layout blocks under the video tracks show the transitions.
Use Corner here to choose any corner at the playhead. Overlay size and Mirror camera apply throughout the project. Delete an unwanted layout transition using its remove button. Microphone and computer audio volumes are independent.
Canvas
Choose Freeform, 9:16, 16:9, 1:1 or 4:5. The recorded screen is fitted to this canvas so the editor does not silently discard content. For a filled social crop, set window framing or a ratio-constrained region before recording.
Export and share
Click Export MP4, choose a file location, and wait for completion. Cancel stops an active export. Share becomes available after a successful export and uses macOS sharing services. Snapmodo does not upload files automatically or generate hosted sharing links in this version.
If export fails, keep the original project and check available disk space and access to the chosen folder. Try exporting to a local folder. Do not delete original tracks to fix an export problem.
## A larger editing workspace
Use the controls inside the video to play or pause, skip back or forward five seconds, and scrub. Space also toggles playback.
Drag the labeled divider below the preview to change its height. Double-click the divider to reset its size. Drag the divider beside the inspector to change its width.
Expand preview fills the editing area inside the current app window and hides the sidebar, timeline and inspector. It does not put macOS into full screen. Choose Back to editor or press Escape to restore the panels. Playback stays on the same video. Toolbar buttons can also hide the timeline or inspector individually.
Fill a portrait frame with a landscape camera
Move the playhead to the section you want, then choose Camera under View from playhead. Under Framing, choose Camera framing Fill. Fill covers the panel by cropping the excess; Fit keeps the entire image visible. Zoom (100 to 400%) and horizontal/vertical position let you refine the composition. The same controls are available for the screen feed. Preview updates when you release a slider.
Framing settings are saved separately for each layout and apply to every occurrence of that layout in the recording. For example, full-camera Fill does not change PiP framing. Position controls move the crop within the available image; they have no visible effect on an axis with no excess image. Reset restores Fit at 100% centered. Undo/Redo includes these edits. Preview and MP4 export use the same transforms and clipping. Original recordings stay unchanged.
## Split more than once
Click a new position in a video track or ruler, then Split (Command-B). Repeat for as many cut points as you need. Click between two split points to select that section and Delete section to remove it. Scrubbing selects the section under the playhead.
The yellow handles trim the entire recording, not one selected section. Dimmed material outside those handles is excluded. If Split is disabled, the timeline explains whether the playhead is outside the trim, in deleted material or already at a split point. Reset trim includes the full original duration again without clearing your split points, deleted sections or layout changes. Restore deleted sections separately to bring back a removed section.
Change mouse click effects
Use the Mouse clicks section to show or hide click animations, change Ripple, Pulse or Double ring appearance, choose a color and adjust size. These edits support Undo and Redo. Preview and export use the same effect renderer.
Effects follow the screen track through cropping, zoom, layout changes, trimming and cuts. They are hidden during camera-only sections and stay behind camera picture-in-picture overlays. Original media is preserved. Older recordings without saved click data cannot have click effects added retroactively.
