Two approaches to Mac capture.

Both Snapmodo and CleanShot offer screenshots, markup and screen recording. Snapmodo is not a full CleanShot replacement. The best fit depends on the workflow you need.

Checked October 1, 2026 against CleanShot’s public product page and Snapmodo’s current implementation.

What CleanShot advertises

CleanShot’s site lists webcam recording, voice and system audio, MP4 and GIF export, a video editor, automatic zooms, scrolling capture, text recognition and cloud sharing. Camera recording and video editing are not exclusive to Snapmodo.

What Snapmodo focuses on

Local screenshots and one-take recordings, with separate camera and screen tracks. Choose social aspect ratios, change camera layouts after recording, trim or cut sections, and export an MP4. The separate Stream Deck companion provides individual capture actions.

Direct purchase is Founder’s price $9.99 $14.99 once. One license, one person, up to two Macs. Snapmodo 1.x updates are included. Future major upgrades may be sold separately or carry an upgrade fee.

Know the limits

Snapmodo does not include cloud share links, OCR, GIF export, captions, automatic zooms or a Windows app. Its scrolling screenshots use guided overlapping frames. We have not independently tested the latest CleanShot release, so we make no speed, reliability or quality ranking. Check the vendor’s current terms for its pricing and update coverage.
