Storage, privacy and interrupted recordings

Local library

On launch, if no location is selected, choose a folder using the macOS folder picker. Documents is suggested. Snapmodo creates a Snapmodo folder containing Screenshots and Recordings, or uses the selected Snapmodo folder directly. This choice is remembered across launches. Clipboard-only captures do not need a library location.

In Settings > General, choose Change capture location to select a different location. Existing projects are copied and verified before switching. Originals are preserved as a backup; changing the location does not delete them. Make sure the destination has enough free space. If a disk is disconnected or permission is lost, reconnect it or choose a folder again. Snapmodo does not silently save captures inside its hidden app container.

Open Settings > Show library in Finder to locate the actual library. New screenshots are ordinary PNG or JPEG files, with no project folder or JSON file beside them. Recordings appear as single, readable .snapmodorecording documents in Finder. Each package keeps its editable tracks and recovery data together. Double-click to open in Snapmodo, or export an ordinary video for sharing. Older UUID recording folders are renamed without changing their contents. Keep the complete recording document when backing up. Older screenshot project folders remain unchanged. The app's library search matches project names, and Favorites helps you keep frequently used captures handy.

Removing a screenshot moves that image to Trash. Removing a recording or older project moves its project folder to Trash. Files you exported elsewhere remain separate. A clipboard-only screenshot has no permanent library copy unless saved explicitly.

Interrupted recordings

Snapmodo writes periodic recovery information and movie fragments during recording. If a recording is interrupted, the app can list it under Interrupted recordings after reloading the library. Choose Recover to attempt to finalize playable tracks into new files and add the result to the library. Originals remain untouched.

Recovery is best effort. The last few seconds and unfinished audio may be unavailable. Very short recordings, disk failures or severely damaged files may not contain playable fragments. If recovery reports that no playable screen fragments were found, use Show files and preserve the originals. A support agent should never promise complete recovery.

Privacy

Snapmodo does not automatically upload your screen, microphone or camera media. The Mac App Store edition uses Apple’s purchase and update services and does not require a Snapmodo account. The direct edition starts a trial with your name and email. Paid license recovery and device management use your verified Snapmodo account. Captures remain local in both editions. Only enable audio and camera inputs you intend to capture. Region/display recordings may include other apps visible in that region. Review exports before sharing.

Saved screenshots flatten redactions into the image. Older screenshot project folders may still retain unredacted originals.
