Recording controls and social framing

Region and display capture

Select a region to record a particular part of any display. Pick Freeform, 9:16 Vertical, 16:9 Wide, 1:1 Square, or 4:5 Feed before dragging. Main display records the primary display. One display or window is captured per recording.

After selection, a visible boundary and floating controller remain onscreen. Drag inside the frame to reposition it on the selected display. Drag any corner to resize it. Social aspect ratios stay locked; Freeform lets width and height change independently. The frame stays inside the display. Review the area, then click Record. The countdown is cancellable. The timer excludes time spent paused. Drag the controller by its background to move it. The border does not block clicks during recording.

Window capture

Choose Window and select the application window. Refresh the list if needed. Start recording opens the framing controls before capture begins.

Choose a format. With Fit whole window off, drag the crop to position it and use Crop size or any corner handle to resize it while keeping the selected ratio. Resize the source window before clicking Record. With Fit whole window on, the entire window is retained and fitted into the chosen output canvas with padding.

The crop is applied before cropped window frames are written to disk. The editor can change the output canvas, but cannot restore pixels excluded by the capture crop.

Moving a window during recording moves the guide with it. Resizing or minimizing the window pauses capture once the change is detected. Restore the original size and bring it onscreen to resume, or stop and start a new recording with different framing. This version does not support continuously resizing a source window while recording.

Floating controls

The controller shows recording/paused state, elapsed time, Pause/Resume and Stop. With a camera enabled, it also shows a mirrored framing preview and a layout menu. With a microphone enabled, it shows an input meter. The camera preview is a monitor, not a final composition preview; layout edits appear in the editor and export.

Snapmodo's own controls and capture guides are excluded from its screen recording filters. Other applications' notifications or windows can appear in region/display capture, so prepare your desktop before recording. Window capture filters to the selected window.

Output

Recordings use SDR at 30 frames per second and a maximum 3840-pixel capture edge. Social export presets use a 1920-pixel long edge; 9:16 exports are 1080 × 1920. Freeform uses the recording dimensions. Exported video is MP4.

Mouse click effects

Before recording, open Recording and use Mouse clicks to enable Show mouse clicks. Choose Ripple, Pulse or Double ring, then a color and size. Effects start off by default. They are added during playback and export, leaving the screen original unchanged.

New recordings save click positions, mouse button and timing locally in the project, even when effects are off. This lets you enable or change effects later in the editor. Only clicks within the selected screen region or visible selected window are saved while actively recording. Paused periods, clicks on Snapmodo's controls, keystrokes and continuous pointer movement are not collected. Click metadata is not uploaded automatically.
