Permissions and troubleshooting

Check access before capturing

Snapmodo opens a permission checklist on first launch after this feature is installed. You can revisit it at Settings Permissions. Screen access is needed for screenshots and screen recording. Microphone and camera access are optional; allow only the inputs you plan to use.

The checklist verifies screen access through the same ScreenCaptureKit service used for capture. macOS may ask for access during this check. Choose Open System Settings to review screen access, or Allow for a new microphone/camera request. For previously denied access, Settings opens the relevant Privacy & Security section. Return to Snapmodo to refresh the status, or choose Check permissions again. macOS may require Quit & Reopen after a screen permission change. The checklist checks permission state without recording or starting camera/microphone sessions. It does not verify that an external device is connected.

Choose Done to continue even if optional permissions are off. macOS permissions are granted after the app opens, not by the drag-to-Applications installer.

Why does a screenshot ask for screen and audio permission?

macOS names its permission Screen & System Audio Recording. Snapmodo needs screen access for screenshots as well as video. Seeing this permission name does not mean microphone or computer audio is being recorded in a screenshot.

Permission is enabled but capture still fails

Make sure you are running the installed copy in Applications. Quit and reopen Snapmodo if macOS requests it. Open the relevant permission section from Snapmodo Settings and check that the entry is enabled. Avoid launching old development copies alongside the current app. If the problem persists, report the app version, macOS version, capture mode and exact error. Do not send private screen contents or passwords.

Recording pauses unexpectedly

Window capture pauses if the selected window is resized, minimized or unavailable. Restore its size and visibility to resume, or stop and reframe a new recording. A disconnected capture display also makes the source unavailable. Stop and inspect saved tracks if an input device fails.

The first preview is blank

Use Play or move the playhead forward slightly. Camera and screen tracks can begin at different times. If the whole video is blank, check screen permission and the selected source; preserve the project for troubleshooting.

Export or save fails

Check free disk space and write access to the destination. Try a local folder. Keep the original project files. If Snapmodo reports that available tracks were saved, inspect which audio/camera tracks are present before exporting.

Information useful for support

Share the Snapmodo version, macOS version, whether the Mac uses Apple silicon or Intel, input-device names, capture area, format, reproduction steps and exact error text. Prefer a recording of a harmless test window. Do not include credentials, original unredacted captures or confidential customer data.
