Cameras, microphones and computer audio

Recording sources are independent. Enable only the sources you want.

Microphone

Turn on Microphone and choose System default or a named input. Supported inputs are the devices macOS exposes, including compatible USB microphones and AirPods. The System default option displays the microphone macOS currently selects. For repeatable results, choose your microphone by name. Microphone preview and recording use the same normalized mono audio format. The level meter helps you check that the chosen microphone is receiving sound. High levels near the end of the meter can indicate clipping; adjust your microphone gain or distance.

Computer audio

Turn on Computer audio to record audio played by other applications. This does not replace the microphone setting. Enable both to capture your narration and an application's sound separately. Use headphones to prevent speakers feeding back into your microphone. During recording, the floating controller shows separate microphone and computer-audio meters. Computer audio is not monitored until recording starts.

Camera

Turn on Camera and choose the device. Snapmodo uses cameras exposed by macOS, which can include USB webcams, Continuity Camera from a supported iPhone, and a Canon camera configured through a compatible webcam utility. Snapmodo does not install or configure third-party camera drivers.

In Recording mode, the main preview now shows the selected camera live. Choose Starting layout and Overlay corner to check placement before recording. The labeled screen area is a layout guide, not a live screen feed; choose your actual source when starting capture. Leaving Recording mode stops the device preview. Check the camera preview before pressing Record. The camera is stored separately from the screen. You can choose screen-only, camera-only, picture-in-picture, screen-in-corner or split layouts in the editor and adjust camera size, corner and mirroring.

If a device is missing or silent

  1. Connect the device and click Refresh devices.
  2. Select the intended input by name rather than relying on System default.
  3. Check the corresponding permission in Snapmodo Settings.
  4. Close another app that may be using the camera exclusively.
  5. Make a short test recording and listen to the exported file.

Bluetooth and USB device availability depends on macOS, hardware and drivers. Reconnecting an input during a recording is not guaranteed to work; stop and begin a new recording after changing devices. A working device list alone does not prove a device is sending usable media.

## Camera size and background effects

Before recording, use Overlay size to make picture-in-picture larger or smaller. Vertical formats start at 60% of the canvas width; landscape starts at 35%. Adjust from 15% to 90%, with height limited to fit the canvas. The selected size carries into the video editor, where it can be changed again without altering the original camera recording. Existing projects keep their saved size.

How to adjust camera effects opens a guide with the selected camera’s reported Portrait blur capability and active status. Click the camera / Video icon in the macOS menu bar while the preview is active, choose Snapmodo if listed, and look for Portrait. Snapmodo does not open the system panel automatically. Portrait background blur and other available controls depend on the Mac and camera. These system effects are recorded into the camera feed and cannot be undone in the editor. Camera-specific exposure/focus settings may require the camera manufacturer's software; Snapmodo does not currently provide universal hardware controls.
